Protecting completed homes before occupation: Primary Detection Systems

Primary Detection Systems (PDS) deployed Reconeyez technology as part of its bespoke “Eco Home Defender” solution to help protect a national house builder’s new-build site in Cheshire.

The deployment demonstrates how autonomous, AI-powered intrusion detection helps housebuilders and security providers address a common challenge on residential developments: protecting valuable assets within completed properties before occupation.

Challenge

The 51-home residential development is being delivered by a large national house builder in Cheshire. While construction sites face ongoing risks from trespassing and theft throughout the build programme, there is a particular vulnerability once homes near completion.

“Once a new home is built and ready to be occupied, it’s at risk until the homeowners have moved in. There is a lot of high-value equipment there, such as boilers, white goods, and other fixtures,” explains Paul Roberts, Managing Director at Primary Detection Systems.

Traditional fixed security measures would not meet the needs of the rapid cycle of properties being completed and sold across residential developments.

“With homes being completed at different stages across the development, the site required a temporary security solution that could be moved from home to home.” Paul added.

Solution deployed

To address this challenge, PDS developed the Eco Home Defender, using Reconeyez technology to create a self-sufficient, solar-powered security solution designed specifically to protect completed and near-completed homes.

“Working in collaboration with the development’s Site Manager, PDS are pleased to have deployed our first pair of Eco Home Defenders. It is a temporary security solution that could be rapidly deployed taking just 10 minutes to set up, easily relocated, and operate without the need for permanent infrastructure.” shares Paul.

“Located outside recently or nearly completed homes, the self-sufficient, solar-powered surveillance PID utilises AI-verified sensors and cameras to detect potential intruders up to 35 metres away. Once detected, the on-site alarms are sounded and the images go through to our CAT 1 Control Centre where our staff will inform the keyholders, our local Rapid Response patrollers or the Police.”

How Reconeyez enabled flexible residential protection

The PDS Eco Home Defender is built with Reconeyez AI-powered autonomous security technology, optimising installation flexibility and infrastructure-light operation to deliver rapid, reliable protection across evolving residential sites.

Deployment & installation

  • PDS custom-fabricated metalwork to house Reconeyez detectors, solar panels, and wireless bridges.
  • All Reconeyez devices are preconfigured and automatically paired for rapid installation.
  • This allows PDS to install systems rapidly, within minutes, and reposition them as homes progress through build stages.

Detection & device capability

  • Elevated Reconeyez detectors provide up to 35m detection range with wide-area coverage.
  • Full HD images are captured day or night. An integrated invisible flash supports clear image capture in low light.
  • Reconeyez devices are designed with rugged housings, built-in tamper detection, and weather resistance, for exposed sites where vandalism and environmental conditions are a risk.

Power & autonomy

  • Each Eco Home Defender unit operates fully autonomously, using Reconeyez replaceable batteries, solar power and inbuilt SIM connectivity.
  • Reconeyez’ AI-driven power management further optimises battery consumption.
  • This means that there is no requirement for Wi-Fi, cabling, or fixed site infrastructure.

Monitoring & verification

  • When activity is detected, Reconeyez alerts and transmits HD images directly to PDS’s NSI Gold-approved Category 1 Alarm Receiving Centre via Sentinel software – as Reconeyez integrates with major alarm monitoring systems and ARC platforms.
  • Reconeyez’ AI-powered visual verification helps ensure only genuine intrusions trigger an alert.
  • This met a key requirement for PDS, ensuring monitoring operators had immediate visual information when an alarm was triggered, enabling faster, more informed decisions, including patrol dispatch or police attendance.

Why Primary Detection Systems deploys Reconeyez

By integrating Reconeyez into its Eco Home Defender solution, PDS has created a practical and scalable approach to protecting new homes between completion and occupation, enabling rapid installation, easy relocation as developments evolve, and verified alarm images for monitoring operators to support faster response and reduced risk for housebuilders.

Following the successful deployment at Oak Villa, PDS is continuing to explore opportunities to expand the Eco Home Defender across future housing developments and other residential construction projects.

The PDS Eco Home Defender demonstrates the strength of combining smart engineering with Reconeyez wireless, AI-powered detection, giving installers greater flexibility to secure fast-moving, complex, or off-grid sites where traditional CCTV is less effective.
