SecuriPlex: Rapid, scalable security for critical utility sites

SecuriPlex, part of the BusinessWatch Group, specialises in integrated security solutions for utilities. Working primarily with water companies across large, distributed networks, the company supports sites with high security requirements and complex operational demands.

To meet these challenges, SecuriPlex needed a flexible solution that could be deployed rapidly across multiple locations. By adopting Reconeyez technology, the team now delivers ongoing protection wherever urgent or temporary security is required.

Andy Emms, Senior Contracts Manager at SecuriPlex, explains how Reconeyez is supporting two of their largest customers.

The challenge: urgent security needs in remote, critical environments

Utility providers form part of the UK’s critical national infrastructure, with strict security requirements to protect essential services. With a network of sites across a large geographic area, they need flexible, bespoke security solutions that can adapt to different risks and environments.

SecuriPlex was looking for a solution that could deliver the highest levels of security across multiple utility sites. Rather than a one-off project, Reconeyez is now deployed on an ongoing basis wherever urgent or temporary protection is required

“We often need to deploy security kits at very short notice, and Reconeyez gives us that ability with a superior product, which is why we moved to it in the first place. We now deploy more than 30 kits across multiple utility sites, usually where there’s an urgent requirement, a difficult environment, and a need for rapid, scalable coverage. It allows us to introduce effective security quickly, wherever it’s needed most,” comments Andy.

Across these deployments, SecuriPlex regularly faces:

  • Urgent security needs requiring rapid mobilisation
  • Remote sites with no power or communications
  • Temporary gaps during site work or security upgrades
  • Situations where restricted access disrupts operations

Andy highlights two typical use cases. One involved fly-tipping that escalated into a direct operational blocker:

“There was fly-tipping at the entrance to the site. Obviously, these sites are quite critical—and access is vital at all times. Not only is the fly-tipping an issue in itself, but it also stops operators getting in to do what they need to do.”

SecuriPlex also uses the technology as temporary protection during upgrade works:

“We also use it as temporary protection. It’s deployed on clean water sites while we carry out security upgrades, so it fills the gaps while we’re working on the systems. Where there’s a small amount of downtime, we use these kits to cover that gap.”

Advanced solution: AI-powered security built for remote utility assets

Utility sites often face sudden incidents or temporary vulnerabilities, and frequently without the infrastructure that traditional CCTV relies on. Many locations are remote, unmanned, or have limited or no power and connectivity, yet still require the highest security and monitoring due to their critical nature. That is where Reconeyez stands out:

“We deploy Reconeyez because it allows us to respond quickly to urgent threats, deploy protection where there’s no power or connectivity, and scale the solution from a single detector to full sit coverage as requirements change,” Andy explains.

“Reconeyez offers high-quality images, better detection, and a more robust build, along with exceptional battery life. The cloud monitoring system is also easy to access and manage, which makes a big difference when you’re looking after multiple sites.

There are options to extend battery life, such as solar kits, which gives us more flexibility and reduces the need for maintenance visits, especially on remote or unmanned sites.

Overall, it’s an all-round product that achieves what we need from a rapid deployment point of view, while also giving clients HD imagery, reliable detection, and the security protection and monitoring they need.”

The Reconeyez system uses AI-powered visual verification to improve detection accuracy and filter out false alarms, so operators only receive alerts that require attention. This reduces unnecessary responses and provides clearer, more actionable information from site.

Remote cloud monitoring, durable hardware, and long battery life minimise maintenance visits, streamline operations, and ensure continuous security, even at the most remote sites.

Built for rapid deployment

With Reconeyez, deployment is simple, and devices connect easily, enabling SecuriPlex to scale protection from a single detector to full multi-device coverage as site risks and requirements change – vital for locations where traditional security systems are not practical.

“What sets Reconeyez apart is the ability to scale. It means the solution can be tailored to each project’s requirements, from a single detector to tens of detectors on a particular site,” Andy adds.

“We use Reconeyez where there is an urgent security need and also on sites where access or connectivity is limited. We value that we can deploy it in places where a lot of other kit just can’t physically go. We even had it deployed in the Welsh hills, where there’s no power or network infrastructure on site.”

A key operational advantage is the ability to dispatch them immediately when needed, reducing time to protection. Andy described how the Reconeyez ready-to-deploy kit model supports that approach:

“Deployment is incredibly straightforward. Our engineers can take a kit straight from the box, install it, and have the site protected in a very short space of time.”

This is possible because the Reconeyez system is fully wireless, with no need for power or network cables, and all devices come preconfigured and automatically paired. Installers can deploy cameras in minutes, use the app for a visual coverage preview and walk test, and configure cloud settings for individual sites or larger groups.

Client operations: self-monitoring with real-time notifications

Many utility operators prefer to maintain direct operational control through their own control rooms. Reconeyez supports this model, allowing SecuriPlex to retain access for support – while enabling customers to self-monitor through their own control rooms.

“Both our clients who use it self-monitor. We have access, but they have their own control rooms, so we give them access to their own environment and they receive notifications of any activity. They’re 100% satisfied with the solution,” Andy explains.

Reconeyez systems can be monitored through the dedicated cloud platform and mobile app or integrated with all major alarm monitoring systems. This allows operators to receive alarms, activate sirens, and view device statuses directly within their existing monitoring environment, ensuring seamless adoption into established security workflows.
